The Faribault Middle School Problem-Solving Team is composed of our counselors, social worker, school psychologist, case facilitator and assistant principal who meet to provide assistance to students who are having academic or behavioral needs in school. PST is designed to help teachers identify needs and implement interventions and supports for students.
There are numerous variations of problem-solving models in schools. The problem solving process has three basic components: (a) describing and analyzing a student concern, (b) identifying potential strategies to address the concern, and (c) implementing the strategies, collecting data and evaluating effectiveness.
FMS PST steps: Step 1: CPT discusses student concern, keeps record of student discussions in team binder and brainstorms strategies/accommodations. Step 2: If team is noticing a pattern of difficulty for a student and accommodations are not working fill out PST referral and submit to School Psychologist. The PST form in located on the weebly. Step 3: PST reviews, clarifies and meets with CPT to develop intervention plan. Step 4: Teachers implement interventions, collect data and monitor progress. Step 5: PST reviews data with CPT and determines next steps.
