How do you choose your vocabulary words? If you're just using what the curriculum tells you, you might be teaching uncommon words and missing some important high frequency words.
Academic Language words: These are words students need to DO school- describe * define * demonstrate * label * list reference(s) * preview/review * process * discuss comprehend * explain * Content-Specific words: These words are used frequently in your subject area and may have changed meanings in different content areas.
Brick and Mortar words: Brick words are the content-specific words to occur frequently. Mortar words are the signal words indicating the relationships between words and phrases.
