December - Generosity Week 2 Date: 12.19.17 OVERVIEW & PURPOSE -Focus: How am I showing generosity? How do my words/actions affect others?
MATERIALS NEEDED1. This will be up to you! Students will be participating in a small service project. Materials will depend on what you or your group decides.
Introduction (1 minute): Briefly discuss generosity and ways we show generosity.
Ask students if they have an example of a way they showed generosity since last time.
Activity #1(7 minutes): Let students know that your group will be participating in a small community service project to show generosity to others. You can either pick what the group will do or you can allow them to use this as a brianstorm time to come up with an idea.
Examples include: -picking up trash in the hall -putting up positive posters in the halls or on lockers -writing notes to senior citizens at a nursing home in town -bringing in canned/non-perishable food for the food shelf -bringing in gently used board games or toys for Ruth’s House -writing cards to our military overseas -doing something helpful in your room such as cleaning or organizing that shows generosity to YOU!
The possibilities are endless. The idea is to pick something reasonable for your group to help instill the power of being generous, even in their own school, home and community. If you need ideas, please see Brent or Annika for help brainstorming!
Closure Questions (2 minutes):
How did it feel to think about others and how to be generous to them?
Are there ways that you can think of to be more generous to others? What are some examples?
How might our school, homes and community be different if people acted more generously with each other?
Transition Finish the service project outside of this time if needed (especially if students need to bring back canned food or other items). Encourage students to remember how it feels to be generous to others and how it can be done in small ways. Close the lesson
