February - Kindness Week 1: Date: 2.6.18 OVERVIEW & PURPOSE - Words Hurt/Giving and Receiving ComplimentsFocus: Words can hurt and once they are said, it can leave scars on the person Kind words/compliments make people feel good. Say “thank you”. When someone gives you a compliment or does something kind. It is hard to fix a wrinkled heart. A kind word is never wasted. MATERIALS NEEDED
Paper and writing utensil
Introduction: Today we are going to talk about hurtful words and how that might affect us
Activity #1(7 minutes): On a large piece of paper ask students to volunteer to write words or phrases that might be hurtful to others and that might be heard in our school. Give everyone a chance to add words to the page.
Advisor says: Think about the saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones. It words will never hurt me”. Is that true? Do words hurt?
Crumple up the paper of hurtful words and say, “This is what hurtful words do.”
Smooth out the paper and say, “Even when you smooth the paper out, it will never be the same again. It’s going to have marks and scars.”
Say the saying, “A kind word is never wasted. What do you think this means?
Advisor says: Yes, a kind word usually makes someone happy and feel good. Saying something kind is called a compliment. Compliments make others feel good. What are some examples of compliments?....We respond to a compliment or a kind deed with a thank you.
Close the lesson Advisor reads the “Kind” poster and hangs it up in the classroom.
Advisory Challenge: This week I Challenge you to say thank you to all the people who help you or are kind to you everyday. These people could include your parents, teachers, siblings, friends, bus driver, coach, kitchen staff, secretaries, custodians and more. It will encourage them to keep showing kindness. Thank you for being in my advisory!

February Self Evaluation (PBIS) and Reminder Letter Date: 2.9.18 OVERVIEW & PURPOSE -Focus: How am I contributing to make FMS a positive and safe environment? (WIOR) MATERIALS NEEDED
Scheduled times for advisory conferences to provide students
Introduction: Student Led Conferences are just around the corner, so today we will be completing Reminder Letter and completing the PBIS self evaluation.
Activity: (WIOR)
Hand out the Reminder Letter to each student. Have their conference times on hand to remind them of the date and time of their scheduled conference.
Read reminder letter with class or to class in order to clarify any issues or questions.
Have students bring home their Reminder Letters.
If there are any conflicts with the schedule, advisory teacher needs to be contacted as soon as possible.
Complete the PBIS Self-Evaluation. Have students place in their advisory binder when finished.
Teachers: make sure to have students complete their Academic Student Self-Evaluation in your class. Due by October 9th.
