February - Kindness Week 2 Date: 2.27.18 OVERVIEW & PURPOSE - Random Acts of Kindness WeekFocus: How am I showing kindness? How do my words/actions affect others? Kindness starts with one. “No act of kindness, no matter how small is ever wasted” -Aesop MATERIALS NEEDED1.video clip listed below https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxrpO9vPeY0
Introduction (1 minute):
Ask if anyone is familiar with the idea of “Pay It Forward”. Discuss overall concept- a student comes up with the idea that if he helps three random people, asking only that they help three more people in return, it will have a ripple effect.
Ask students to share the different acts of service they saw that encouraged others to “pay it forward”.
Tell students you are going to give them several minutes to reflect on times they have experienced this kind of kindness. Students can share their experiences for a few minutes.
Have students reflect in small groups how this impacts the individual and the community. What are the benefits of this type of service?
Share conclusions.
In the same groups have students brainstorm ways they could incorporate the pay it forward model in their school. Encourage students to consider paying it forward beyond just their fellow classmates. How would paying it forward look towards a teacher, custodial staff, office staff, or administrators?
Share ideas.
